Interact is pleased to announce the first iteration of a new and experimental artist-in-residence program. Over the course of a month, an artist takes over Interact Gallery as their studio space. They can use the time to install in-progress work, test large scale projects, and investigate new materials. Gallery staff are available to support, from process to planning. Without a specific end goal, the residency is an open opportunity for artists to take risks and leverage the space for new ideas.

Michael Engebretson, who has called Interact his studio since 2016, will kick off the program in May 2022. Engebretson’s drawings, paintings, and sculptures describe a futuristic, extraterrestrial utopia. Sustainability, neurodiversity, and equitable healthcare are celebrated in an intergalactic civilization that he catalogs in hyper-detailed, graphic, technicolor works. You can learn more about Engebretson and find his available work here.

The gallery will be open to the public during Engebretson’s residency. While there is no formal exhibition on view, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about his practice and check out works in progress.
