Since 1996, Interact’s mission to create art that challenges perceptions of disability has transformed the lives of artists with disabilities. Interact fosters a deep belief in the power of creativity to urge social change. Especially for marginalized communities, creativity and free expression assert new narratives, and lead to cultural shifts. We believe in the transformational power of truth telling through our stories: that by experiencing original work created by artists with disabilities – often expected to be “less than” – new truths emerge through the power of artistic expression.
Interact’s actors and visual artists create all-original work, and explore ideas through the lens of the entire spectrum of disability labels. We are intergenerational, multi-cultural, and driven by a vision of radical inclusion… a vision that dissolves notions of who can and who cannot, blending the talents and viewpoints of artists with and without disabilities, and artists from mainstream and marginalized communities.
Interact opens doors for artists with disabilities, and for audiences who are eager to experience their work – work that transforms lives by exploring the full spectrum of human potential.
